Marseille's midfield has been the subject of much debate this season, with many fans and experts wondering if they could find a better option than the likes of Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet.

However, that question was put to rest last weekend as Argentine midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron shone in a 2-1 win over Monaco at Stade Velodrome.

Veron, who joined Marseille on loan from Roma earlier this year, was one of the standout performers for the Ligue 1 champions, providing the assist for the opening goal and making several key passes in the final third.

His performance earned him a standing ovation from the home crowd after the match, and he received praise from his teammates and manager Lucien Favre.

"It was a very good game,Bundesliga Express" said Favre. "Juan did well, he is a player who can make a difference."

Veron's display was just one example of the improved form that Marseille have shown since the departure of former captain Steve Mandanda in January.

The club have signed several new players during the transfer window, including Brazilian winger Jean Michael Seri and French defender Lucas Hernandez, and they have also made some significant changes to their playing style under new coach Rudi Garcia.

Their newfound confidence and determination has seen them climb up the table and challenge for a top-four finish, something they were thought unlikely just a few months ago.

But it's Veron's performances in midfield that have really caught the eye, and he will be a vital player for Marseille going forward. As he says himself: "I'm happy here, I love football and I want to play every game."
